West Side Story at The Fireside Theatre

Way back when, a much younger me read West Side Story and then watched the movie along with my junior high English class. I haven't seen it since then but several of the songs still pop into my head randomly so when I saw that it would be at The Fireside this season, I immediately snapped up some tickets. And it did NOT disappoint!!

The energy of this show in this intimate theatre is truly incredible. The choreography uses every inch of the stage and as we were sitting in the front row, I legitimately worried that we might end up with an actor in our laps. Of course, we didn't! But we WERE captivated by every minute of this show.

The costumes were gorgeous and colorful, genuinely adding to the artistry of the choreography. As always at The Fireside, the use of the stage and scenery was very creative.

I'd say this has been my favorite show so far this!!

From the first notes to the final breath, WEST SIDE STORY is a theatrical event not to be missed. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City as two young lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence, and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching, and relevant musical dramas of our time. Broadway legends Arthur Laurents, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, and Jerome Robbins created a show that is both ageless and as fresh as tomorrow’s headlines. Join us for this landmark musical and epic tale of love eternal.
